I grew up in an environment where most of my family and close acquaintances were deeply devout Christians. When my mother first found out that I am lesbian, instead of accepting it, she rejected reality and believed that I was being tested. So, when I would come home from school, she would hold my hand tightly and pray for hours, preaching to me during that time. It was during this time that I felt it in my bones. I realized I had to hide my true self and force myself into this frame.
